At the first-ever International Nuclear Science Olympiad 2024, Pakistan’s team shone brightly, winning several medals. Their impressive achievements show the country’s dedication to developing future leaders in nuclear science and technology on the world stage.
The inaugural International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) in the Philippines concluded with remarkable achievements by Team Pakistan. Competing from July 31st to August 6th, 2024, in Clark, Pampanga, the Pakistani team showcased their nuclear science prowess, securing two silver and two bronze medals. Suleman Nouman from Siddique Public School and Subhan Kashif from Lahore Grammar School earned silver medals, while Ehban Awan from Karachi Grammar School and Qasim Salam from Siddique Public School received bronze medals. These accolades reflect Pakistan's dedication to nurturing young talent in nuclear science.
Supported by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Pakistani team’s success is attributed to rigorous training provided by the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS). The IAEA's financial backing further enabled their participation.
The competition featured 55 students from 14 Asian countries. The Philippines' Mohammad Nur Casib, the top overall scorer, was titled ‘Nuclear Science Olympiad Ambassador’, while Singapore’s Tran Doan Duy Phuc received the highest score in the experimental examination.
The INSO serves as a vital platform for young scientists to exchange ideas and inspire one another, fostering the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers. With growing participation, the Olympiad underscores the significance of international collaboration in advancing nuclear education.
